Membership
Becoming a member of the Esoteric Book Club is simple. It is free and not obligating in any way. You do this by following this link. You do not even have to give your real name, but we need a real email address so that you can receive announcements to vote for books and which books are ultimately chosen so that you can read them.
Book Club Super Secret Names
Choose a secret name for yourself, “Brother Fox” or “Sister Moonglow” or “Sister Challenge” or really anything. Choose something that in some way describes who you are or who you would like to be. One word or so only. Nouns are preferable but not necessary. Possibilities include animals, mythological figures, cultural references, nature terms, colors, weather, etc. In your group you may be exclusively referred to by this name or you may be referred to by your civil name (or your fake name if you only give us a fake one), it is up to the group. There can be no repeats so choose quickly or you might have to settle for being known as “Sister Pencil.”
Monthly Local Group Meetings
Although there is a web forum, local meetings are really the heart of the Esoteric Book Club, because it is here that people can really meet each other and engage in the true alchemical processes of human socialization and sincere interaction. The internet is not a replacement for genuine face to face meetings with other humans with shared interests.
We get together physically around mid-month every month to discuss the present book in the cycle. The meetings are informal and at locations chosen by the local organizers. Some are at local book stores or esoteric resource centers. Others are at coffee shops, pubs, or people’s houses.
The structure of meetings is simple. New people are introduced and welcomed cordially. If they have not read the book they are greeted slightly less cordially. Why would you come to a book discussion without reading the book? It’s like going to a tickle party without any feathers.
After introductions (and/or tickles) are finished, the book discussion begins in earnest. Seven questions are gone through sequentially. These seven questions are based upon the seven planets. So, in an odd and yet surprisingly real world way, after a year in the Esoteric Book Club you will have rather intimately and personally studied the ancient planets in the context of each of the signs of the zodiac. You will be well on your way to adepthood.
